LETS LEARN: Lactobacillus Casei found in Beetroot and its benefits

There are many strains of helpful bacteria that are found in fermented foods and drinks. All our products are wild fermented  and rely on nature to provide the biodiversity.

The aim of this post is to explore a specific strain of bacteria called Lactobacillus Casei.

We all usually talk of Lactobacillus because we know it is in Yogurt. Yogurt is the most widespread cultured food across the globe.

Lactobacillus is not one bacteria but rather the name for a whole lot of bacteria. Several types of Lactobacillus exist. As of current, 170  species and 17 sub species of Lactobacillus are known.

Lets keep our focus on Lactobacillus Casei (Lb. Casei) today. This bacteria naturally occurs in many plants including Beetroot.

There is ongoing research which seems to indicate it has beneficial impact on gastro-intestinal conditions like colic, constipation, Crohn’s disease, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), lactose intolerance, ulcerative colitis

Several other auto immune disfunctions have also been mentioned as potentially being helped by Lb. Casei.  Acne, hives, fever blisters, allergies, eczema, and dermatitis, cold, flu, and respiratory infection, ear infections, oral health problems, H Pylori infections, Lyme disease, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), urinary tract and vaginal infections- Now that’s an impressive list if I ever came across any!

It is important to note that these bacteria work in ways we do not fully understand. What it seems to indicate is that it positively impacts the management of these diseases.

Let us look at constipation. So many people suffer from chronic constipation. We all know this is not a good situation. Exit the body discards thru the bowels regularly, otherwise, like a backed up drain, the body tries to find ways and means to expel the waste.

Lb. Casei helps ease constipation quite a bit.

Lets connect the dots. We hear anecdotal evidence from all our customers on how Beetstreet helps their motion become easier, irrespective of what level of bowel function they are at.

We also know beetroot contains Lb. Casei.

Dots connected. Lactobacillus Casei found in Beetstreet maybe the reason it is so helpful in conditions of constipation.

It’s a very exciting journey to discover what each bacteria does and how it impacts our body.

Having said that, the lord above created bio diversity and we humans do not fully know the cross play of each microbe. At Nature Nudge we leave it to Nature to manage the bio diversity of bacteria in our drinks and foods.
